US Republicans attack China
03 September 2012
America's Republican Party has launched a savage attack on China in its 2012 Platform.
According to party that Mitt Romney will lead into November's 's US presidential election, China "has built up its economy in part by piggybacking onto Western technological advances, manipulates its currency to the disadvantage of American exporters, excludes American products from government purchases, subsidizes Chinese companies to give them a commercial advantage, and invents regulations and standards designed to keep out foreign competition".
A Republican President will turn up the throttle on China by insisting on full parity in trade with China and standing ready to impose countervailing duties if China fails to amend its currency policies.
The Republicans claim that President Obama's way of dealing with China has been a virtual surrender.
So look out for some fireworks -- or more likely a quiet backdown -- if "Massachussets Mitt" makes it into the White House. He will quickly learn that more than half of China's exports (including the i-Phone and i-Pad) come from foreign investment companies, not Chinese companies.
